Maintaining your beard trimmer or hair clipper is essential to ensure its longevity and optimal performance. In this article, we’ll go through the steps you can take to preserve your device.
Trimmers are simple devices to look after, however, maintenance is necessary to ensure optimal performance and long life.
It’s a good idea to check the manufacturer’s instructions for cleaning, as there may be differences from model to model.
Most trimmers come with the necessary accessories for maintenance. Typically, this includes a small brush and a small container of oil.
Below, we’ll go through the typical steps in maintaining your trimmer.
If the trimmer is washable, you can rinse the trimmer head to remove hair and dirt. Check the manufacturer’s instructions to make sure the device is waterproof before rinsing it.
After use, remove the hair from the trimmer with the included brush. This ensures that hair does not build up inside the machine and keeps the blades in good condition.
After several uses (e.g. once a month), remove the entire trimmer head (if possible) and remove the hairs that have become lodged inside the machine.
When you purchase a trimmer, there will typically also be a small container of oil included. This is used to maintain the trimmer’s blades.
Apply a few drops of oil regularly to the blades to keep them sharp as this will prevent rust. After applying the oil to the blade, let the trimmer run for a few seconds to distribute it. Wipe off any excess oil if necessary.
Follow the manufacturer’s instructions regarding the frequency of oiling.
