Who should buy iRobot Roomba 980

  • If you have enough budget to afford an array of smart features and thorough cleaning, this product may satisfy you. Because of its dirt detector, it gives extra attention to places that have more concentration of dirt; therefore, it is suitable for carpets, pet owners, and those who have frequently dirty spaces. Moreover, it also has an automatic carpet boost wherein it can detect carpets and increases its suction which is very helpful to people who have carpets in their house. It is also fit for users especially ladies who frequently experience hair falls that are left on the floor because this product uses rubber extractors, unlike other robot vacuums which are more resistant to hair tangles. It is also suitable for large households because of its long-lasting battery life that can clean the whole floor level in one charge.

Who should NOT buy iRobot Roomba 980

  • Because of its slightly expensive price, it may not be for everyone. Also, if you don’t want to be disturbed by a loud noise, this may not be for you because it can get quite noisy when cleaning. Moreover, if you have a lot of spaces you don’t want the robot vacuum to go, this product may not impress you because it only provides two virtual wall barriers, unlike other high-end robot vacuums that have a “no-go zones” feature in their app.

This is our verdict of the iRobot Roomba 980 based on several hours of research of reviews from both experts and users.
Updated 08-02-2021

iRobot Roomba 980 is a bit pricey but it provides several smart features that perform a thorough cleaning and smart navigation that makes your money worth it.

It has an impressive dirt detector wherein it can detect a high concentration of dirt and thoroughly cleans the area. Unlike other robot vacuums that don’t have this feature, they clean the whole area with two or three passes in which takes a longer time to finish. However, this product knows which area needs to be cleaned thoroughly and therefore saves time.

This product uses a sensor and VSLAM (Vision Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) to accurately navigate the area. As a result, it can go through and around tight spaces. It shows in the app the map it took after cleaning to display which spaces it cleaned and did not clean. However, it doesn’t show a real-time map and doesn’t save the drawn map. Because it doesn’t save the data, there is no virtual no-go zones feature and cannot specify which room should only be cleaned that other high-end robot vacuums provide.

Even if it doesn’t have a no-go zone feature, this product provides two virtual walls that can be used to set up boundaries and limits. The virtual walls are efficient and almost invisible because it can hardly be noticed which is a good thing.

The app also provides a lot of other features and options. On top of that, it is user friendly and easy to navigate.

It has high airflow but the downside of this is that it can be quite noisy. So, it is not ideal to use this Roomba 980 during the night and when watching television.

Overall, this pricey robot vacuum is worth your money because of its outstanding features and thorough cleaning performance.
