Who should buy iRobot Roomba j7

  • If you live with pets in your home, the iRobot Roomba J7 might be an excellent choice for you. You no longer have to worry if the robot vacuum will run into the waste of your pet because it is one of the most successful robot vacuums to avoid pet waste.
  • If you have long hair and you often have hair falls, you might appreciate the brush of the iRobot Roomba J7 because the brush is made up of rubbers that prevent hair from tangling.
  • If you have many low-lying furniture, the height of the iRobot Roomba is a great help. With its low height, it can easily clean under the sofa, bed, and other hard to reach areas without getting stuck.

Who should NOT buy iRobot Roomba j7

  • If you live in a large house, you might be disappointed with the battery life of the iRobot Roomba J7 that can last for only 75 minutes. However, it can still recharge and go back to where it left so it is a minor issue. But if you want a robot vacuum that can clean your whole house on a single charge only, the ZOOZEE Z50 might be a better choice that can continuously clean for 290 minutes or the Ultenic T10 with a maximum running time of 280 minutes.
  • If you want a more automated robot vacuum that can automatically empty its dustbin, the iRobot Roomba j7+ might be more suitable for you because it comes with an auto-empty base.

This is our verdict of the iRobot Roomba j7 based on several hours of research of reviews from both experts and users.

The iRobot Roomba J7 is one of the most successful robot vacuums equipped with smart obstacle avoidance that can efficiently avoid pet waste and other obstacles. It doesn’t come with an auto-empty base unlike the more expensive iRobot Roomba j7+ but other than that and the price, the two robot vacuums doesn’t have any differences.

Other robot vacuums equipped with LIDAR navigation systems have a common problem which is the increase of the height due to the turret on top of the robot vacuum. Because of the turret on top, the robot vacuum struggles to clean under low-lying furniture and it is also one of the reasons why the robot vacuum gets stuck. The iRobot Roomba J7 solved this issue because despite having a LIDAR navigation system, it doesn’t have a turret on top. It remains to have a low profile of up to 8,7 cm only which helps the robot vacuum clean hard to reach areas. That way, it can clean areas where you often ignore such as under the sofa, bed, and other furniture where most dirt accumulates.

The iRobot Roomba J7 is equipped with a smart obstacle detection that specializes in avoiding pet waste. This is a great help for those who have pets inside their house because robot vacuums that don’t have an effective smart obstacle detection will run into their pet’s waste which scatters more dirt and can possibly damage the sensors of the robot vacuum. The iRobot Roomba J7 also suggests areas that you might want the robot vacuum to avoid. While cleaning, it captures an image of an obstacle that it thinks should be avoided on the next cleaning and lets you decide whether to label the obstacle as a temporary or permanent obstruction. It gets smarter and knows the layout of your house more by allowing you to review the obstacles that it encountered.

The LIDAR navigation system is hidden wherein there is no turret on top of the robot vacuum but this does not decrease the mapping ability of the iRobot Roomba J7. It can still provide an accurate map and can navigate your house thoroughly. It can go through all the areas of your house and doesn’t leave a spot uncleaned. You can see the created map in the app wherein you can name the rooms, divide the rooms, create virtual boundaries, and create cleaning areas. Those are just one of the many features of the app. The app offers a variety of options and features so you can control the robot vacuum according to your liking.

Like other iRobot Roombas, it has a patented brush wherein it is made up of rubber which prevents hair tangles. This is a great help for those who don’t have enough time to frequently cut hairs that are stuck in the brush and makes it easier to maintain the brush.

Another nice feature of the iRobot Roomba J7 is that it knows when to start and stop cleaning based on your phone’s location. This feature makes it more automated because you let the robot vacuum do all the job including starting and stopping the robot vacuum. You no longer have to remind yourself to start the robot vacuum when you leave the house and it can automatically return to its base when it detects that you are already near the house. That way, you can go home to a clean house every single time.

The iRobot Roomba J7 might have a lot of nice features but it also has downsides. One of these is the poor battery life. It can only continuously clean for a maximum of 75 minutes compared to other cheaper robot vacuums such as the Ultenic T10 that has a battery life of up to 280 minutes. The good thing here is that it can automatically return to the charging base and after recharging, it knows where it left and resumes cleaning on that area so that it no longer needs to restart its cleaning cycle.

Overall, the iRobot Roomba J7 is still worth the price especially if you have pets in your house, have many low-lying furniture, and if you don’t have enough time to remove hair tangles in the brush.
