Shark WV200UK

Shark is a popular brand within battery vacuum cleaners and offers cordless stick vacuum cleaners and cordless handheld vacuum cleaners.

The Shark WV200UK is a small and practical handheld vacuum cleaner. We have tested and reviewed the vacuum cleaner in accordance with our test methodology 1.1 for handheld vacuum cleaners.

Who is the Shark WV200UK suitable for

• If you are looking for a very lightweight handheld vacuum cleaner to clean small crumbs and the like from time to time, this is a good choice.
• The vacuum cleaner is built to be left out in the open, as it needs to charge in a charging station.
• The Shark WV200UK comes with a brush suited for pet hair removal, which showed good results in our test. However, if you have more stubborn hairs that are deep in the furniture, you might want to consider a handheld vacuum cleaner with a motorized brush instead, as these remove hairs even better, for example, the Bissell 1987N Pet Hair Eraser, or the Shark CH950UKT.

Who is the Shark WV200UK not suitable for

• If you have to do larger cleaning tasks, you should choose a handheld vacuum cleaner with a longer operating time. The operating time of the Shark WV200UK is only 8 minutes, and thus it cannot clean for a long time at a time. If you need a handheld vacuum cleaner for longer cleaning tasks, take a look at the Shark WV270UK, which has an operating time of a maximum of 15 minutes, or the Shark WV251UK, which comes with two batteries.
• The Shark WV200UK is a relatively expensive handheld vacuum cleaner, so if you are on a tight budget, you might want a cheaper handheld vacuum cleaner that still gives good cleaning results, like the Bosch Move BHN14N.

Shark WV200UK vs. Shark WV270UK

The Shark WV270UK is an upgrade to the Shark WV200UK, having been built with a stronger battery.

The Shark WV270UK is built with a 14.4-voltage lithium battery, whereas the Shark WV200UK is built with a 10.4-voltage lithium battery.

The Shark WV270UK has a maximum runtime of 15 minutes, whereas it is 8 minutes for the Shark WV200UK. Also, the Shark WV270UK has two power settings, whereas the Shark WV200UK only has one.

Shark WV200UK vs. Shark WV251UK

The Shark WV200UK and the Shark WV251UK are practically identical. The difference is that the Shark WV251UK has two batteries, which are interchangeable. This gives the vacuum cleaner twice as long a runtime. However, it also makes the product more expensive.

Battery

The Shark WV200UK is built with a lithium battery, with a runtime of 8 minutes, which is short and makes this handheld vacuum cleaner suitable only for minor cleaning tasks. In comparison, the Bissell 2278N Pet Hair Eraser has a runtime of 18 minutes, and the Bosch Move BHN14N has a runtime of 12 minutes.

The charge time of the battery for the Shark WV200UK is just 2.5 hours which is very short, especially compared to handheld vacuum cleaners with a NiMH battery, which typically have a charge time of 6-16 hours.

In general, lithium batteries are better than NiMH batteries, as they have a shorter charging time and a longer life span. However, they are also more expensive.

Functionality

The Shark WV200UK is very simple and is built with two buttons:

• Power on/off
• Open the dustbin

It only has one power setting, and the dustbin is very easy to open with a click of a button. When you empty the unit, you simply place the dust container above the waste bag that you want the waste in and press the button.

The dustbin has a capacity of 0.1 liters, which is very small. In comparison, the Shark CH950UKT has a dustbin capacity of 0.45 liters, and the Bissell 2278N Pet Hair Eraser has a capacity of 0.65 liters.

Comfort

The Shark WV200UK is a very comfortable handheld vacuum cleaner. This is because it has a very low weight and is easy to empty.

We measured the vacuum cleaner’s weight to 0.55 kg without attachments, and in comparison, most other handheld vacuum cleaners have a weight of around 1.2 - 1.6 kg.

The vacuum cleaner is built with a washable filter, which is easy to clean. However, the filter may be difficult to remove from the unit.

Cleaning

We have carried out 3 cleaning tests with the Shark WV200UK:

• Cleaning test 1: We tested the vacuum cleaner’s ability to pick up 50 grams of sand in 10 seconds from a parquet floor.
• Cleaning test 2: We tested the vacuum cleaner’s ability to pick up 50 grams of sand in 10 seconds from a carpet.
• Cleaning test 3: We tested the vacuum cleaner’s ability to pick up pet hair from a carpet.

In all three cleaning tests, the vacuum cleaner did a good job. The results went as follows:

• Cleaning test 1: The vacuum cleaner was able to collect all of the sand on the parquet floor.
• Cleaning test 2: The vacuum cleaner was able to pick up 35 grams (70%), which is decent. In comparison, the Bissell 1987N Pet Hair Eraser picked up 84% of the sand in this test, and the Bosch Move BHN14N was able to pick up 62% of the sand.
• Cleaning test 3: The Shark WV200UK was able to pick up almost all of the pet hair. This test shows that the vacuum cleaner is suitable for removing animal hair.

Noise level

We have tested the vacuum cleaner’s noise level. The noise level is measured at an arm's length from the vacuum cleaner.
We measured the noise level to:

• Maximum measured noise level: 75.4 dB
• Average measured noise level: 74.2 dB

This is a relatively high noise level compared to other handheld vacuum cleaners we have tested. For example, the Bosch Move BHN14N only scored an average maximum noise level of 73.5 dB.

In comparison, a regular vacuum cleaner has a noise level of around 72 dB.
