Shark WV270UK

The Shark WV270UK is an upgraded version of the popular Shark WV200UK. It offers powerful suction, long runtime, and a handy design. We have tested and reviewed the Shark WV270UK in accordance with our test methodology 1.1 for handheld vacuum cleaners.

Who is the Shark WV270UK suitable for

If you are willing to pay extra for a light and very powerful handheld vacuum cleaner, the Shark WV270UK is a great choice. On the other hand, if you want to save some money, there are cheaper options out there which still perform well, such as the Shark WV200UK, or the Bissell 1987N Pet Hair Eraser.

The Shark WV270UK vs. the Shark WV200UK

The Shark WV270UK is an upgraded version of the Shark WV200UK. The Shark WV270UK differs by:

• Longer runtime: The Shark WV270UK has a maximum runtime of 15 minutes, whereas it is 8 minutes for the WV200UK.
• 2 power settings: The Shark WV270UK has two power settings, instead of just one.

In terms of design and weight, they are quite similar. Basically, if you want a more powerful handheld vacuum cleaner or a model with a long runtime, the WV270UK is the best option and if you want to save some money the WV200UK is a better choice.

Battery

The Shark WV270UK is equipped with a 14.4 voltage lithium battery. The battery is not interchangeable.

It has a very short charge time of 3.5 hours, which is much shorter than most other handheld vacuum cleaners.

The vacuum cleaner has a maximum runtime of 15 minutes, which is expected in the price range this vacuum cleaner is in.

Cleaning performance

We have tested the vacuum cleaner’s ability to clean in three different tests:

• Parquet floor cleaning test: In this test, we tested the vacuum cleaner’s ability to clean up 50 grams of sand in 10 seconds from a parquet floor.
• Carpet cleaning test: In this test, we tested the vacuum cleaner’s ability to clean up 50 grams of sand in 10 seconds from a carpet.
• Pet hair cleaning test: In this test, we tested the vacuum cleaner’s ability to clean up pet hair from a carpet.

All the tests were made in the vacuum cleaner’s ‘Boost’ mode.

The results in the tests went as follows:

• Parquet floor cleaning test: The Shark WV270UK managed to pick up all of the sand in this test. All handheld vacuum cleaners we have tested have managed to do this.
• Carpet cleaning test: In this, the vacuum cleaner did a very good job. It managed to pick up 45 grams of the sand (90%), which is one of the best results among the handheld vacuum cleaners we have tested. This demonstrates the vacuum cleaner has a very powerful suction.
• Pet hair cleaning test: This test was conducted with the upholstery brush. The vacuum cleaner did a good job and almost managed to pick up all of the pet hair. However, the upholstery brush needs to be cleaned after use because the hair gets stuck on it.

Overall the vacuum cleaner did very well in the cleaning tests.

Functionality

The vacuum cleaner has two power options:

• 1. Eco
• 2. Boost

This means you can choose between Eco-mode (for longer cleaning sessions), or Boost-mode (for quick and effective cleaning). Most other handheld vacuum cleaners only have one.

The vacuum cleaner has two buttons on the top: One to turn it on and off, and one for boosting the suction power.
Underneath it has a button to open the dustbin.

Comfort

The vacuum cleaner is very easy to empty. You empty it by placing the dustbin above a trash can and pushing a button. The dustbin has a capacity of 0.1 liters which is small and means you have to empty the dustbin often.

The vacuum cleaner has a washable filter that is easy to clean.

Attachments

The Shark WV270UK comes with various attachments suitable for different cleaning tasks:

• Upholstery brush: Suitable for cleaning of furniture.
• Crevice nozzle: Suitable for cleaning hard to reach areas. The crevice nozzle has a built-in pop-up brush suitable for cleaning of sensitive areas, such as a keyboard.

Noise level

We measured the noise level of the Shark WV270UK to be 78 dB on average and to have a maximum noise level of 80.2 dB in Eco-mode.

In Boost mode we measured the average noise level at 79 dB and the maximum noise level at 81.4 dB.
This is a very high noise level for a handheld vacuum cleaner and means this is one of the noisiest models we have tested. The vacuum cleaner emits a very shrill sound. The difference in noise level between the Eco mode and the Boost mode is very small.

In comparison, the Shark WV200UK has a maximum noise level of 75.4 dB, and the Bosch Move BHN14N was 73.5 dB.

The noise level is measured at an arm’s length away from the vacuum cleaner.

Size

The vacuum cleaner is small and very lightweight. We measured its weight as 659 grams.
