Bosch Move BHN14N

The Bosch Move BHN14N is a simple handheld vacuum cleaner at a low price. We have tested the vacuum cleaner in accordance with our test methodology 1.1 for handheld vacuum cleaners.

Who is the Bosch Move BHN14N suitable for?

• If you are looking for a simple handheld vacuum cleaner, which will only be used for a short time every now and then, the Bosch Move BHN14N is a fine choice.
• If you need a handheld vacuum cleaner for car cleaning the Bosch Move BHN14N might be the right choice, due to its relatively strong suction power and light weight.

Who should not pick the Bosch Move BHN14N?

• If you need to use the vacuum cleaner several times a day, or for a long time, the Bosch Move BHN14N is not the right choice, as its battery has a relatively short operating time (12 minutes max) and a long charging time (12-16 hours). Instead you might want a handheld vacuum cleaner with a shorter charge time, such as the Shark WV200UK (charge time 2.5 hours), or a model with interchangeable battery.
• The Bosch Move BHN14N is not suitable for pet hair removal, because it has no accessories to achieve this. If you are looking for a hand held vacuum cleaner suitable for pet hair removal, take a look at the Shark CH950UKT, or the Bissell 2278N Pet Hair Eraser instead.

Battery

The Bosch Move BHN14N is built with a 2.15 Ah NiMH battery. NiMH batteries are typically a battery that is seen among budget hand vacuum cleaners, as it is significantly cheaper than a lithium battery, which is the type seen in more expensive models.

The disadvantage of NiMH batteries is that they are slow to charge, which is also seen with the Bosch Move BHN14N and its charge time of 12-16 hours. Another disadvantage is that NiMH batteries tend to self-discharge more quickly than lithium batteries. This means they lose their charge over time, even when not in use. The Bosch Move BHN14N has an estimated runtime of 12 minutes, however, it will quickly become shorter than it would if it was equipped with a lithium battery.

The Bosch Move BHN14N is equipped with one battery and it is not interchangeable. The voltage of the battery is 14.4 volts, which is a powerful battery and means that the vacuum cleaner can probably deliver higher suction power than handheld vacuum cleaners with a lower battery voltage.

Functionality

The Bosch Move BHN14N is a simple handheld vacuum cleaner that doesn’t have many features to offer. It has 1 suction power level which can easily be turned on and off when you carry the vacuum cleaner.

The vacuum cleaner is not suitable for vacuuming wet spots.

It has a washable filter, which is easy to clean. The dustbin has a capacity of 300 ml.

Comfort

The Bosch Move BHN14N is equipped with an ergonomic handle and is easy to turn it on and off. The dustbin is easy to empty and the device doesn’t weigh too much.

Cleaning

The most important factor when picking a handheld vacuum cleaner is its cleaning abilities. This is closely related to the suction power of the vacuum cleaner.

We performed three tests for the Bosch Move BHN14N:

• Test 1: We tested how much of 50 grams of sand it could pick up from a parquet floor in 10 seconds.
• Test 2: We tested how much of 50 grams of sand it could pick up from a carpet floor in 10 seconds.
• Test 3: We tested the vacuum cleaner’s ability to pick up pet hair from a carpet.

In the parquet floor sand pick-up test the vacuum cleaner did a perfect job, and managed to pick up all 50 grams of sand.

However in the sand clean-up test on carpet, the vacuum cleaner only managed 31 grams of sand (62%). In comparison, the Bissell 1987N Pet Hair Eraser managed to pick up 42 grams of sand (84%) in the same test.

The Bosch Move BHN14N did a decent job in our hair pick-up test, however other handheld vacuum cleaners have done a better job in this task. However, this is also expected because the Bosch Move BHN14N is not built for pet hair removal.

Accessories

The vacuum cleaner comes with a crevice nozzle which can be easily mounted. The nozzle is suitable for cleaning in cracks and narrow areas. There is no storage space on the vacuum cleaner itself to store the nozzle.

Noise level

In accordance with our test methodology for handheld vacuum cleaners, we tested the noise level of the Bosch Move BHN14N. We test the noise level at an arm's length from the vacuum cleaner, and measure the average noise level and the maximum noise level. For the Bosch Move BHN14N we measured as follow:

• Average noise level: 73.0 dB
• Maximum noise level: 73.5 dB

In comparison a regular vacuum cleaner has a noise emission around 72 dB.

Design

The Bosch Move BHN14N is made of plastic, and consists of a main part where the handle- and battery is placed, and a front where the dirt is collected and where the filter is located. The parts are easy to assemble and disassemble.

The vacuum cleaner measures:

It weighs 1.2 kg which is a comfortable weight that most people can easily carry around.
